jartok: brood devolopment with heatmat (6. Aug 2009 12:39)

i have a fair amount of L asius niger queens and brood - i want to speed up the process on some of them to help sell

i have the heat mats and i can buy a matstat

i was gonna get a box fill it with sand and then heatmat underneath that so no direct contact and then heat the tubes -

what temperature is ideal for L asius niger and Lasius flavus and how much quicker would you think brood devolopment would increase

thanks

It hot enough now i suppose. ;) You don't need extra heating.

You could use a heat mat, but i don't think its really neccesary. Wouldn't go above 25°c if you are planning to give them one.

the temps about 10c hotter just a meter or 2 below ground, plus the sun warms stones, the ants nest under them and move there pupa under the stones to speed it up,

its a good idea, just dont use to much sand as heatmats cant penetrate much.
