hello Antstore, i just have a quick question for you guys
i have a small black lock box which i keep my ants in under my bed away from my noisy parents, when my colonies grow bigger i shall create a space for them in the garage but thats a different story =)
problem is i need to heat the box up alil, being such a small space alot could go wrong. i was thinking a heat mat would be my best bet? need to keep the temp at 25-30
was wondering if heat mat is the best choice? , and what size heat mat i should get, and do i need a thermostat?
dimensions are... 12 inchs long x 9 inchs across x 4 inch deep
should i put it in and under the ants or in and over the top to heat them from above?
Thanks in advance =D

We need to know which species of ants you are keeping. Not all need heating.
Messor barbarus and Camponotus ligniperda im putting in there, they might not need the heating but it will help, its only like 19c most of the time in my room
i have just gone ahead and fitted a heat mat to the top of the box (inside) and have been measuring temps over the last day and they stuck to a steady 25-28
Tell us if it worked wont you MR_MAJOR_MELLOW :)
seems to be going well sticking at 25c, im guessing cause the heat mats on top not much reaches bottom even though its a small box.
