tom12: if your queen dies? (25. Jul 2009 14:20)

hi sorry for this newbie questions but i was wondering how i could make my new queen replace the other (it died) in a colony of ligniperda(50 workers).
i have tried with mesh(puttin new queen in testbube with a bit of mesh at the end) but it doesnt seem to do anything...any suggestions??

This is one of the hardest things you can do i think. Sometimes it is impossible to replace a dead queen, your best bet is to add one worker at a time to the queen, perhaps even putting her in the fridge when you add the worker.. Either she will take to the new workers or not.. its a risky thing to do! But good luck :)

i have done the exact same with my l asius niger.

This works easy with Lasius niger and Lasius flavus but i tried with messor barbarus and the queen killed them.
