Hi,

I'm new to the forums, I can see you all know your stuff so was wondering whether you might be able to help me.
I've attached an image of the ant farm I have that I ordered from antstore, I'm just unsure of how to set it up exactly, there seems to be a gap between the arena and the sectioned of bit, I read somewhere on here that it shouldn't be there, is that right?
I have also labelled the parts that im unsure of how to set up (which is basically all of it...sorry)
If anyone has an pics or links that shows how this ant farm should be set up they would be much appreciated.

I also have one of these kits and mine looks just like that one. The instructions are in German

Can anyone help? I'd like to know how to set it up correctly

Ok ive never had one of these myself.. so im only guessing.. but from ones i make myself.. i always put stones first.. then sand.. and a tube at the side to pour water into the stones.. As for the gap im not sure if its meant to be there or not.. Can you put up a link to the exact item you got?? might help a little. As for the Arena, i think its up to you.. if you put nothing then it is easier to clean out.. but putting something there makes it look better.. but you always have the risk of the ants wanting to make a nest there.

Hello Michael and welcome.

Depends a little bit of which species you are going to put in there but your setup (like you put it on the picture) seems fine by me.
I haven't had a farm like this myself so i'm not sure about the gap but i suppose it could be a entrance for the ants to there nest. So it would be better to put the tube at the other side of the nest area. Don't put to much water in it, just enough to keep the nest moist.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm hoping to put some Myrmica rubra in there, also I've now decided to build a small y-tong and connect to two through tubing, once I've got it all set up I'll post a few pics
