methuselah: heat matt position in glass farm. (18. Jun 2009 23:54)

Hello ant keepers

I will be receiving a batch of Messor Barbarus quite soon and these ants need a warm temperature of 25-30 celcius.
I have a glass farm and a 10w heat matt. I just not sure what is the best way to stick the matt to the glass farm. Shall I place the matt at the bottom or just simply stick to the side of the glass wall? Since it is a thin column of (3 cm thick with sand/loam), will this overheat the nest? Any suggestion?

Thank you.

I'm not sure, but I think you might find that if it's always on a 10 watt heat mat will seriously overheat your farm. Ideally you should incorporate a thermostat.

yes.. as your farm is so small it is gonna be hard to offer them a "cool" spot. I do believe you will need a thermostat, and i would place it on the side not underneath, but only on half of the farm.
