I have a colony of Lasius n iger since 1 year and they are still in the test tube.I've just tried to let the tube uncovered but they don't move...How can I put them in the farm???
Hello
It´s easy. You shoud light them with some very strong light and they will remove their brood and queen and themselfs on the next, darker place....
Could be dangerous or too much stressing for the queen?
Yes, sure it is. We usualy hanle it like this: we put them into the formicarium and after some days they move if they want. If they don´t want to move they won´t and that just means that its not time to move for them.^^
Forcing them to move often causes much complications and sometimes also dead ants.
I ,too, think that keeping them in a test tube is much easier than somewhere else. Just connecting them with the farm should let them move when not than just wait a little longer.
BUT when there is no water in the test tube you really should force them when they still don´t move!
Yup.. make sure they are somewhere connected to the farm.. Keep them uncovered and in the light and the nest dark.. they will soon move.. Dont worry.. :)
Ok. I will now stop posting in the english part of this forum, I see you handle things on llittle other ways than we do and I wouldnt say better ones!
Putting extra light on the test tube... hm. Not sure that will make them move. As we all know Lasius niger are dificult movers. I would connect the tube to the new farm and if they still not moved when the tube dries out you should help them a little bit.
I have just connected the test tube to the hole of the connection to the farm.I used a box as support to have the same plan.Could it be right???
I think Steve' s recommendation with the lamp is bad, and I can understand Baumarkthammer.
@ Alby
Yes, this is possibility - or you put the test tube into the arena. You must have patience!
Greetings
