Jamcom: Getting custom farm made (7. Apr 2009 21:57)

i am getting a bigger slim ant farm built by our local reptile owner, and i was wondering whats a good size ? 40 by 40 and 2 cm thick was what i was thinking

it depends on the ants and the size of the colony.
you will also need holes on the side (8/10/14 mm diameter, depending also on the size of the ants).

40 by 40 and 2 cm thick should be big enouph for most of the ants.

i was planning on M essor barb arus , M yrmica rubra, or pholide pulia**,

**Edit Antstore - That is a wrong designation :!: You mean Pheidole pallidula?

ye sorry :D not best speller and whats the difference between M essor barbarus and Messor hesperius ?

hador: Re: Getting custom farm made (9. Apr 2009 12:12)

M essor hesperius is more expensive and M essor barbarus are bigger.
for M essor barbarus you need at least 20 x 10 x 1-2 cm
for Myrmica rubra you need at least 15 x 10 x 0.5-1 cm
for Pheidole pallidula you need at least 10 x 10 x 0.4-0.6 cm

you can of course allways use bigger farms, but not smaller ones.
