Uncletommy: Cork or the apartment? (21. Jan 2009 12:53)

I'm buying a farm for my university and just wondered which would be better for a small L asius niger colony. The cork nest thats inside a basin with lid etc, or a small glass apartment? The requirements are that the farm be small..ish and visability of the ant processes clear.

input welcome

Thanks

Cork is much more natural, it is similar to decayed wood and ants can dig in it, or close unused areas, remaking their apartment as they like. It is also easier to water, you can make it half most, half dry - and ants usually prefer to have diversed moisture for different brood stages.
