I feed frozen crickets to my Polyrhacis dives but hardly get any eggs, (colony size 100 workers, 3 queens). I have had the same problem with Laisus niger. My Laisus niger colonies have alot more eggs when they are feed solely spiders instead of solely crickets. I'm considering just giving beef. Does anyone know of an easy to come by high protein food? PS Yes I know protein jelly works well with Laisus niger but Polyrhcacis dives just look at it and don't eat it. Thanks.
I am not sure that what you say about crickets is right. I'm fairly confident that they do have a lot of protein.
In terms of meat, the highest protein you will find is in turkey and then chicken.
I try to give my ants different insects. As much as i can.
My colony got from 150 to ~1000 individuals in 6 month feeding hardly anything than crickets! So i guess they must have some protein...
Thats interesting, where do you get your crickets from please?
I buy them in a superstore 10 minutes from my home. They get fresh supplies once a week.
I guess you could go to like an animal store or something.
The place where I get my pet snake's mice also sell crickets and other crap like that, so I might go buy some from there when I get my lasius's.
Crickets have enough protein. Don't worry about that, i know a lot of people who use them (i do to).
My P.dives love crickets and have healthy brood, maybe theres something wrong with the crickets you are being supplied? Might be worth looking into other things that could be affecting your colony
Hey,
the way you are using the term "protein", you could just as well argue wether Crickets have more cells then Flies (or any other animal). The major part of any cell is made from protein. Hence there is no such thing as an animal with "low proteins".
