if i understand... just turn off the lamp when it is a fine sunnier day.

i have come up with a plan and wonder if you wouldnt mind telling me what you think.
i might make the light that is on the tank lid have a break were it is turned off for an hour or so at midday, so that it doesnt get to hot then inside the tank. then turn back on after the hour break of not being on. and then turn off as usual at around 5:45pm
will this decrease the temp or not?

You can do that, and look if the temperature is going down.
But do you think the temperature will decrease so much if you just turn off the lamp ?

sithmaster676: (14. Nov 2006 07:05)

if i turn of the light completely overnight it will go below 0 degrees c because the light heats the tank up over the day and stores the energy throughout the night keeping it slightly warmer inside.
i thin ill go along with my original plan.
what do you do with your ants when they in hibernation?

You leave them alone, you don't bother them... and you do leave them alone and don't bother them. They don't eat during hibernation so they are preserving energy. Any stress will just make them loose more energy and they WILL die because of it. But I've wrote you this already.

yeah i am completely leaving them to do there own thing now up there in my shed. but i will still go and check the amount of water they have once every 1-2 weeks

That is good, almost perfect. ;)
Remember, you have to be patient if you want to keep ants. ;)
