oh goodie there is a wicks near me also i have a question. are you meant to paint the ytong once its all carved out, because in most pictures you can see that they are white? if so what paint it good?

SteveUK28: (3. Dez 2007 19:40)

lol i think its differnt makes of ytong.. if u went into wicks and asked for a ytong block they would prob look at you as if u was stupid.. here they are mostly grey.. i dont think it would be good to paint them as they have the tiny holes in.. which is how the ants gets there oxygen (i think) so painting would be BAD!!! Anyhow.. if u wanna ask its an airiated block.. costs about 80p :D

you could die the block if you wanted, but u need to make sure you use a non-toxic die, remeber of course that what is not toxic for humans may be toxic for ants....so i'd recomend some kind of natrual dye, like food coloring..however, I am offering no garantee that using any die wont kill ur colony!! do sum research, u might find sumthing usefull :)

yer that would look a bit strange asking but oh well, lol, yer Aerated Blocks at 85p a piece. i really want to start making it now !!! i think thats all i need to know now so thanks

To build a nice nest it better to make one bigger room at entrance and a mail tunnel that connects the other rooms to each other like the pictures SteveUK28 showed.

To color your y-tong (i did it once) its best to take loam and put in a bit of water to make it moist, than paint your y-tong with it and if the loam dry's you have a nice ground looking y-tong. But it much of work so i stopped doing it ;). Not harmful for the ants.

Miszt would i be right in saying that the ytong block i showed ratgreen is bigger than the ones we can get here ???
