tupperware is used to keep food fresh so they are usually nearly airtight. As long as it isn't an old one with bean stains on it and the lid doesn't fit anymore etc. That starter set is pretty much designed for people starting out so seems like a good idea to me anyway, I got one myself. It has everything you need, the only thing I would do is put vaselene around the rim of the lids to make them airtight
4mykids gave me a great idea of what to do with the antworks gel farms.
First, get rid of all the gel. That stuff will just mold and mildew anyway... trust me on this. This add some of the loam/sand mixture they sell here.
Second, I added several extra holes in the top the same size as the tiny air holes in the sides. I put a tube to the bottom below one of these holes to add water to the bottom of the soil.
Finally, the antworks is really not big enough to forage in, and it's difficult to pop the top off and put more food in. So I used the tube that comes with it and set up a passage to foraging grounds.
Don't laugh, I have a nice formicarium as well, but my new queen just moved in there :-D
how do u get the gel out of the antworks i reacently bought ant works and realised my mistake so i am gettin some loam stuff for it and i just wanted to ask how do u get the gel out
No experience with that but can't you just shake it out ? ;)
i dunno i will try i will post again if it wont work thanks jimmy
could you not just spoon it out?
i got it all out with a spoon yea
I know that everybody said that, but Antwork is really crap. I think th better choice for you is to get gel out of it and put some soil with substrate there, and you can have normal ant display....
If your still struggling to get it out I would say boiling water, it should just all disolve
i think the plastic will just melt if you did that, not?
hope this helps
i dont no why they sell antworks, as they do not work at all. it is complete shit, and is too expensive. please, for the sake of your ants, DONT BUY this pile of shit !! :x
