I have used Butter to keep ants in there tanks never use covers and no one gets out. depending on the kind of ant the wider the butter may need to be to stop them from getting out. But has worked for around 24 year in keeping them in there jars. :D

sounds like a nice idea, am gona give it a try :) my t.nylanderi are constantly escaping, fortunetly i keep my basins in dishes of water, so its not to much of a problem lol

Yep Butter works better for some, Mostly the bigger ants have a harder time getting throw it. But small ant will stop try even if a few do make it threw. I put it on the top rim of the jar when pulling the ants out of the dirt. Makes so you do not need to take the cover off each time you grab a ant to put in it.

Okay, maybe i try it sometimes ;) but for now i stick to my PTFE ;)
