Yep, miszt is wright about this one. But why buy a Lasius niger colony ? In a few days/weeks there are going to be lots of them just to pick up. I know you need to start from 0 again but it should work out. These ants are very easy to start from 0.
Do ready the Care sheet from John. ;)

it's not my fault she died. They were put into sunlight and that caused the death. My setup is perfect. I have made it so.

Probly would have helped to say so in the first place lol

why where they in direct sunlight in the first place ?
then the set-up cant be perfect. Queens HATE direct light. they live in the dark.

If i remember correctly his sister did it while she was cleaning up for him!

thats s**t! I'm going to buy a new queen with a lot of workers, im tired of trying and failing to raise a colony from just a queen. What do you recommend? I want a larger species. something exciting!!!

Could be this time it wasn't your fault and we are not blaming any one, but like you said, you are tired of trying and failing. How many times did it happened than ? We presume it happens more than one if you tell it like that. If it was just your first time i would think there is no problem, just start over again.

gabranth: (11. Jul 2008 11:20)

still isnt going to solve the problem, adding more queens and workers will not make a colony to survive if somethings wrong with the setup, it might last a few months longer if your lucky, but whats the point of that?

it will give them a few more months to try and fix the problem

no i had a queen that died in transit and arrived dead. The second one died within a week and the third just died. I think it's just bad luck...apart from the last one who was accidentally put in the sun. I received my new queen today but should i disinfect the old feeding area before putting them into it? They are different species! I can't spell it....C. Hercul*** something like that. lol

Uncletommy: (11. Jul 2008 17:45)

Camponotus ligniperda is the new species! They are huge! what would be the ideal setup for this species?

kashmir79: (11. Jul 2008 22:31)

a Y-tong Nest
