Well, i have this to say about it. There was a test with ants kept in the dark. They kept 2 Lasius niger colonies, one in the dark and one in the light. They both did fine and there where no difference between the 2 colonies. But this was one test and only with one species. So be careful with keeping your ants out of the dark....
