That is what i was trying to avoid. ;) The test miszt is talking about only worked with Lasius niger So if you like you could keep them in light. It would not bother them, but in nature they also life in darkness so...
All other species need to be in a dark nest area !

As i said, if you dont know for sure that a particular species needs to be kept dark, keep them dark, as this is their natural state
Ah ok , wasnt too sure if they realy needed darkness as in google i read that they do and that they dont care so i got lil confused lol...
I also keep 2 small lasius niger colonies 1 in test tube and other in farm, usually i keep them dark but the cloth thing fell off during school so when i came back I noticed they were doing fine so I leave them in normal light (not direct sunlight). As far as I know there hasnt been any negative effects yet.
