I recently applied PTFE Gel around the top of my arena, since then I haven't seen one ant foraging in there :( , it did smell quite strong. I have now reverted back to Vaseline as before to see if this helps. Perhaps some species don't like the smell as mentioned earlier.

I use PTFE on all of my farms, none of my ants seems to be bothered by the smell of it. And (for now) i have not much escaped ants ;), must say i use a lid to. ;)

hmm didnt realize ptfe smells allot, thats not somthing i want to use in that case, i'll give vasaline a try, but in the meantime i will keep all my tanks in basins of water

I have only tried the PTFE Gel, not the liquid variety, the gel is blue and quick thick in consistency, I'm assuming it smells stronger than the liquid.

I use the one they sell here at Antstore.

I bought the gel from screwfix.com:

Still got loads left shame I don't do much metal work.
Perhaps I should have bought the liquid version:

I bought the gel as the ants were already housed & I thought it would run less. #-o

Since reverting back to Vaseline in the arena I have seen one worker foraging in there, may be just coincidence though. I nearly squashed the poor girl with the feed bowl, whoops.

Mix it with water until you have a thick paste. Then you can apply it on the side.

well that didnt work, my Nylanderi and Niger's just walked straight over it
