this is my nest in its final form after a bit of neatening up i think its a bit bigger and looks better i have also added another entrance so that i can expand the nest if necessary or to and cotton wool for a water supply :)

Looks very good indeed. Tough the tunnels doesn't have to be that large, some 2-5 mm is the best, depends on the colony size.

how wide are the formica fusca species as i dont know what tubing to get

I use as test tubes; 150x16mm, for any species exept some very large ones.

That is a good size. But i narrow the entrance from the tube a little bit so they feel saver. If you leave the entrance 16mm it is a little to big.

I let them have some soil so they can fill the entrance on their own, much more natural.
