Ive managed to find a reptile shop that does supply crickets and flys, so im goin to get some from them. What is the best way to keep them?? eg in a fridge?
cheers max
Most of the time i put them a few seconds in hot (boiling) water so they are dead. A let them dry a bit and the put them in the fridge. Before i give them to my ants a defrost them and they are ready to be eaten. ;)

That's what we are here for. ;) When i started i had a lot of questions and the people on the forum help me to. That is what i like about it. Helping each other. ;)
btw: I thought my colony Lasius niger was going to stay in hibernation till end of march, but today i saw the first worker outside the nest. ;)
Yeah ???
so what could that mean then? my ants dont seem to of had much of a hibernation, due to my gf buying me them and not knwing they were ment to be hibernation.??
How much will this effect them?
I have got 4 pupa now aswell !!!! im so excited!! how long do they take to hatch?
cheers guys.
Nothing, just that the temperature is a little to hot here for the time of year. normally they need at least 4 moths of hibernation. 6 is better. but with the shorter winters over here they have only 4.
If the colony has a shorter hibernation (than about 4 moths) they are not so strong to start back up. The queen laying eggs and the workers to work. ;)
Here is what i experience with Lasius niger
