hmm.... how will i get them out then or should i leave them to do it by them selves?
How long have you had your colony? myn moved out in about two weeks, but of course, it varys from colony to colony.
not long. about 3 days (lol).
ah, probably why. :P What nest have you offered them?
loam with a tipping of sand , and a few chunks of wood all inside a ANTSTORE basin.
ah, it wont be long before they outgrow it, and then they will be forced to move
i'll be looking forword to that thanks for your help Sced. see... type you tomorrow. (maby on a diferant subject) bye.
Its ok :D
Bye
1) when is the time of year they come out of the nest in the uk?
It depends from what species you preferring to, Lasius niger from June till September.
2) is it possible for a colony in captivity to have winged ants?
Yes it is. After the colony is on full strength they can pre duce queens or males.
3) how do colony produce winged ants?
Depend on the food the larva gets from the workers.
4) if i have a species of ant that not from the UK and they a winged ants, do i relice them into the wild?
Never relive ants in to the wild ! they can destroy the ecosystem from your area. Just let them in the nest, they will probably help the workers or die and be brought outside the nest. Then remove them.
If your would like to give up a colony - give it away or destroy it but don't relive it in the wild.
5) if i do relice them into the wild is it possible they may successfully mate and start a new colony it the wild?
Depend of the species, but don't do it. ;)
btw: it is illegal to, to do it.
Greets
thanks JimmyVe. i guess i wont let them into the wild if i get winged ants. or a established colony.
