ok how big is your tank that you keep yours in because i have heard from someone else that this size of tank would be perfect because myrmica rubra don't need as much room as say lasius niger?

indeed, mine is about 40cm-40cm-40cm but not all of it is nest, the 'outside world' is in there to ;)

so a 60cm by 50 cm by a roughly 10cm would be suitable for them

i guess so. you can see, if they outgrow it, you can move them.

I'm not entirely sure that they will ever grow out of a tank this big as it is pretty big although the measurements of this tank i could increase like it could be 60 by 60 by 10 that would properly be better
thanks

Your tank ist 15 cm high i think, isnt it? If i'm right, i suggest you to make it higher, because if you fill sand and so on in, there will be just 8 to 10 cm from the bottom until the "roof" (i'm sorry for my bad english^^), so your ants could climb out easly and you have very little space for e.g. PTFE , my tank which Myrmica rubra ist about 20 cm high and until right now, just one came out :)

sithmaster676: (28. Nov 2006 07:59)

no the height is 50cm the length is 60cm and the width is 15cm so what do think fabian how long will this sustain a colony of myrmica rubra:D
