Hello,

I think Lasius niger do not strictly need hibernation like some other species. From my small experience I don't have noticed many differences in keeping L. niger and L. emarginatus.

That isn't correct! Of course - Lasius niger and Lasius emarginatus need hibernation.
Look here:

Greetings

Yes on the shop they say they should hibernate, and in nature they do hibernate. But it is a species that do not need hibernation unlike Camponotus ligniperda or Myrmica rubra for example. I have seen colonies living inside heated houses and the colony I have never hibernate, and they look healthy.

Lasius n iger queen with 11- 25 workers

Ytonggnest Premium

Do I need anything more? Can I connect the formicarium to another one if I would like to? (I couldn´t see or read anything about it but I just want to check.)

EDIT: I am also buying some test tubes. I will maybe need them some time. :)

Hello ant lovers!

I would like to ask you to help me to find a good species for me. I want to keep them to help me clean off animal bones. I live in Europe so I would like to choose what lives here by default.

Thank you for your answers.

The ants looks more fun to have than those bugs and that's why I would like to have them more than the dermestid beetles.

I can think to Iridomyrmex purpureus which can maybe be suited for your needs. And I've seen a video of Solenopsis geminata with some chicken carcass in the nest.
