Lasius niger flew last week in Hedge end, near Southampton. Got myself 3 Queens and they've layed eggs already.

Different nests can go at different times, but there is only one day of the year, normally the middle of July (in the south east of England) where Lasius niger all go on their flight together and the floor is full of newly fertilised queens.

Any idea when Lasius f lavus fly? Do they fly en masse as with Lasius Niger, or is it less noticeable?

Lasius f lavus fly en masse. Often at the same time as Lasius niger.

You will notice them because it's the only time you see workers above ground, though they only hang about while the males and queens take off.

Lasius n iger flew 4th August in Leek Staffordshire, Queen ants all over the place, wingless so I assume mated.
