recently we have had another large naptial flight and i cought another queen. I then put her in a piece of 10 mm clear plastic tube with a moist piece of cloth at one end and a dry piece at the other and 48 hour later i have 7 eggs!!!!!
im so happy!!!!!!!
Congratulations! Any clue as to which species you found?
Greetings,
Necturus
Congrats on the catch! Nuptial flights should be starting where I live very soon. It's pretty exciting as this is going to be my first colony. Wish me luck. :thumleft:
Glad to hear that ford-ute, now give here some rest check on here 2 maybe 3 times a week and prepare a nice farm for them when the colony is bigger. (if possible take some pictures of the queen :) ) Good luck
Also good luck to you LukeyG21 i hope you can catch a nice healthy queen.
Let us know who you are,
here .
Thanks !
good luck :)
Thanks guys
and good luck to you to LukeyG21
i will have to buy a magnifying glass to identify her properly if you look in my photo album on this site you will be able to see a not so flash picture of another queen of the same species but you cant ID her from it hopefully i will be able to update that info soon
i checked last night on her and now she has 12 eggs
also i collected a few and now i have 5 queen with eggs how can i release them back into the wild as i dont need that many
my thoughts are to wait till here first workers come along and place the tube out side some place dark and just leave it there for them to make their move do you think this will be ok i dont want to hurt them
maybe you can offer them to a friend?
Congratulation ford-ute, i hope she will have workers soon. :)
About the other queens, yes you could release them back into the wild but only at the same place you captured them. Other wise you could disturb the eco-system.
Just place the tubes in a dark place and they will move out soon. Just hold on until one of them has workers so you have a nice colony. ;)
mzfckr: i dont know any one how like ants ( most people tease me for my hobby) so with out offering them on the internet i will have to release them
JimmyVe: i will release them in there naturel enviroment if i cant find some one to take them but yes i will wait for my first 10 or so workers
Does any one in australia on this forum want a queen in a couple of weeks im sorry i cant send them over seas it would not be right
If people make jokes about your hobby that is just because they are to lazy to understand how imported insects ore to our world. Some friends off mine make jokes about it to, but if they visit my house they always want to take a look at them. ;)
Sure do that, release them in there natural environment. ;)
I don't think there are many Australian people over here, i'm sure much European people would like you ants but like you said, it would not be right to do this... sadly ;)
