Hello All I Am New To This Forum And Came On To Ask For Help And Advice.
I Have Just Bought A 1 x glass XL - ant display 40x30x6cm For My Queen.
Now I Had Some Sand Left Over From The Drive, Building Sand To Mix With Mortor Will This Be Acceptble For My Queen To Start Her Colony?
And Could I Use The Antworks Gel To Act As A Subsitute For Honey And Water Mix? Or Is This A Bad Idea?
Regards.
The sand may be ok, you should mix it with sum loam tho, i'd also recomend putting it in the oven for a while @ 200C to kill any bugs that may be lurking in it
Dont use the Antworks Gel, Honey is one of the best things you can give to ants, and dead insects :) the gel is no good at all for a queen and her brood, as the larvae can do nothing with it, they need protien
whats the queen btw?
Lasius niger Found her in the garden, She's laid 6 - 8 eggs in the Antworks.
Oh The Bag Wasn't Open But Some How Its Got Soaked Due To The Rain, I Was Sooo Excited When I Got My Package That I Just Shoved The Sand In And Filled It To The Height I Wanted It To Be.
Is The Loam Really Needed?
And Where Can I Get It? If It Is A Must.
Your using building sand so it should be ok but building sand isn't best. You should of used moist play sand.
Sand doesnt hold water as well, but as long as you keep it moist it should b fine :) you can get Loam at most garden centres, just be careful it has no pesticides or other added chemicals
The Sand Has Condensaion All Over The Gaff So I Think It May Stay Moist Abit. Like I Said It's Been 3 Days Now And The Sand Hasn't Dryed Up. But Yeah I Will Need To Moist It. Once Evey Day Maybe. Thanks.
You really must put the sand in the oven before you add it to the farm, there culd b all sorts of things living in it, inc bacteria or fungus
okay mate will do :)
