Hi all, i was wondering if any of you know anything about leaf cutter ants. i.e what to put them in, food, tempretur and any more info you could help me with.
Hi hypervelocity. I keep a small colony of them myself. They are very hard to keep i must say, if you like keeping them you need a bit of experience.
The one i keep are from Argentina, they need a temperature from 25°c to 30°c and a humidity from about 70% i feed them much leafs (of course) from different plants and sometimes also some bugs and sugar water or honey.
I don't know if you know it but they make a fungus garden from the leafs. The live from that for 90%.
Sry, but Leaf Cutter´s are nothing for Kids....
thanks JimmyVe, i now about the fungus and am not going to buy them myself (yet) they are level 3 ant the only ants i have are L asius flavus, Messor barbarus, L asius niger and C amponotus ligniperda LOL.
And your 13 cool :P
People in my school will think its sad to have ants lol I think its interesting :P
If they think that is sad, they in deed don't now that ants are very interesting. ;)
That is nice hypervelocity, this are nice species to start of with. If you have a bit more experience you may try some harder species. ;)
Me 2 lol, every one makes jokes about me keeping ants, but i want to be a profecianl Myrmecologist when i grow up.
Also to anny other vewers: What kind of basin would i keep laef cutters in?
Jimmy i ordered some ants of the antstore and the cost to get to my house costs more than the ants LOL one off the shipments was £90 isnt that wayyyyyyy to much for shipment lol
My shipment is 10 pound which is still quite high lol
Reply to JimmyVe: thank Jim, i will as i grow more wiser about ants.
That is the saddest part about ordering from antstore, the shipping cost, but there is not much you can do about that.
The easiest farm to keep them in is a sand nest i think.
