R3dFox: The queen is dead! (15. Apr 2007 14:28)

So i came home today, and because the house is being decorated my parents have moved alot of stuff into my room. They must have moved my ant farm out of the way and put it on the windowsill. The weather has been realllllly hot and the whole arena was steamed up, most of the colony was outside of the nest and alot of them were dead. Some look dried out and some stuck in the condensation.

The test tube was steamed up pretty badly too so i took it out to have a look and saw the queen in there, but she wasnt moving. I pretty much knew she was dead from that. So i tipped the test tube out and yep shes stone cold dead.

I think i saw a egg or two in the test tube but they are proberly buried under the dirt when i tipped the tube out. The colony are digging around in that pile of dirt now so im guessing they will rescue the eggs and look after them?

But basically im asking, is there any hope for my colony now? any chance of one of the eggs hatching as a new queen? or if i buy or find a queen will they accept her?

If i bought a whole new colony will my old ants be accepted by the new colony?

:( :( :(

Im sorry to say, there isn't any hope :( they wont accpet a new queen nor will the eggs turn itno new queens.

sithmaster676: (15. Apr 2007 14:38)

no there is no chance that the eggs will be a new queen even if they are they would need to be mated with and it is not likely either that a new queen would be accepted into the new colony or neither would the workers but it is likely that the eggs that remain would be accepted into a new colony
im sorry to hear about your lost

Dang. well looks like i will be making another purchase from the antstore lol.

Hopefully, my next queen will be more active and my new colony will work out better.

Because i will be getting a new batch of clay off deadmeat on here. So i can re-fill my display.

And this colony i had while they were in hibernation and i disrupted them. So they have been very timid and the queen has only just produced eggs.

So maybe this is a good thing in the long run.

Just wondering, how long will these guys last before they die off?

hey, unlucky about ur queen R3dFox, i had just placed an order from antstore, if ild of known bout this earlier i could have ordered u a new a lasius niger colony, saved you the shipping.

but oh well. if you email uta, they sort it out so shipping is cheaper. cost me 11 euros for the colony and shipping, which isnt bad at all. and came in about 3 days.

still waiting for ur address to send some seramis to.

ah yea cool. Well i need to get myself a bit of money first lol and ill proberly order my new colony before i get that seramis off you. That ok?

How you mean contact them? just send em a email?

Ill proberly just order a new lasius niger colony, keep it simple and cheap lol. and a few other things if i can get the shipping cheaper.

The survivors of my colony seem to be all huddled in one corner. Looks like their digging. Bloody typical, its the most digging/most active they have ever been lol.

R3dfox, when youn next order would you be able to order something for me so I dont have spend alot of money on shipping, I will send you the money, thats if you want to anyway :P

thanks.

R3dFox: (15. Apr 2007 16:01)

Well im not going to be ordering anything for quite some time lol.

Ive got a £180 overdraft to pay off first and foremost.

JimmyVe: (15. Apr 2007 17:56)

Sorry to here that about you colony. Like already sad, there is not much you can do. You can try to put the workers in to the new colony but the chance that they except them is very low.

Now you (and your parents) have learned a bit, don't put your ants in to the sun. ;)

R3dFox: (15. Apr 2007 18:14)

the left overs of my colony all seem to be huddled together in a corner now. Looks like they might be digging or just sitting there.

Is this normal for a colony whos just lost its queen?
