well after having being very patient and waiting for my L asius niger colony to move into there setup for a year, i have finally decided that i don't want to wait any longer so i placed both of my lasius niger colonies (the colony in my shed and the one in my bedroom) into the fridge for 10-20 mins and then took them back to there setup and gently poured them in both colonies got very stressed but have both also moved into the sand soil mix so i believe it is a great success.

well done, i think any one of us may well have done the same by now, a year you waited, i am not sure i would have had your petience, it's not my best quality..
lol a whole year. Those L asius niger are stuborn
Heh... then I guess I have very nice and polite L asius niger. They moved to another tube within a month when the old tube completly dried. :D
see that never happened with me after a year the test tube never ran dry, but both of the colonies have now moved into the soil which i guess will give them a bit of extra heat compared to a test tube.

;) They are known as bad movers. lol
I most of the time wait a month if they did not move in that month i help them move. ;)
my latest colony of lasius niger moved the same night i put them in the farm, although the farm was full of peat rather than sand, which they do seem to prefer
well they have moved now and are happy as from what i can tell it will also benefit them because there will be extra heat and humidity in there chambers.
but during the last two days both colonies have excavated lots of sand and soil
