at last today i looked under the tin foil around the test tube and i have 2 cocoons i have been waiting since before hibernation for my lasius niger colony to start increasing there size and finally it has happened :D and while i was looking inside the test tube i had chance to count the larva that is left and it came to a number that was bigger than expected i have about 45 larva and 10 eggs for a colony only 11 strong i thought that was amazing

Necturus
i will have pictures within the next week i am going to give them a bit more time i only like to uncover them at most once a week so ill wait a little while and i might have some more cocoons then and i will take a picture:)
i was wondering does the flash on a camera harm or bother them in any way
Sithmaster676
In my experience the flash don't harm or bother them (of the species i have). That is good, don't disturb them to much. The queen like there rest. ;)
i took some photos today but only one of them has a picture worth using so i have added it but its not very clear as my camera is not very good :(
the white mass behind the queen is larva and quite a bit of them,
when my relative comes down to stay she has an incredible camera and i will ask to borrow hers and take some pictures then but i won't know when this is :(
The pictures is not that bad, looks like she (and you) have done a great job.
it was taken from a 3.5 pixel camera and soon i will take some with a 8 pixel the quality will be much better

That is true, but if you want to take really good pictures you need to take them with a macro lens. (but that is expensive)
Looking forward to your other pictures. ;)
