Your not so far off Skippy ;) I think about 150-200 workers each but i did not count them. ;)

Nice JimmyVe,

Those numbers reflect your care and undwerstanding of them.

Good stuff!!!!!

I ran a little experiment with my Lasius n iger queens, some where fed on Protein Jelly designed for reptiles, some on Crickets, and some on Fruit Flys, all of them where also given Honey mixed with Fish Flakes...

After 2 months...

Fruit Flys: ~10 workers, ~20 eggs, ~10 larvae
Crickets: ~10 workers, ~20 eggs, ~10 larvae
Protien Jelly: 20-30 workers! huge pile of eggs and Larvae, to many to count :D

Protien Jelly seems to be a good way to get a colony off the ground quickly, however, Workers dont seem very interested in collecting it to feed to the queen and larvaes, strangly tho, this is not true for the colonys that started on crickets/fruit flys, they love the protien jelly! So pherhaps there is something in the Protien jelly that they where missing from their diet originally, am waiting for a list of ingrediants from the makers, duno if they will tell me tho

JimmyVe: (11. Sep 2007 21:16)

@miszt

On how many queens did you run this experiment? If only on 3 than I can say that your conclusions are or might be coincidental.

Did you also have a queen that you did not feed with anything in the time of experiment? That is always a must when you run experiments like this. You might have got the same result from her.

miszt: (12. Sep 2007 12:53)

of course mpir, i had 38 queens, split in to groups of 11, and the remaining 5 where not fed anything :) all controls had less than ~5

mpir: (12. Sep 2007 16:19)

38 queens :shock: Now that is what I call an experiment!!! Great. Having in mind this new data it gives more credibility to your experiment. So there is something on this protein jelly. Mith confirmed. :wink:
