Hiya guys
As most of you know i have had my ligniperda in a log for some time now. However since i put them in there i noticed no activity at all.. Being that they was still small i thought that maybe they are just coming out at night. But curiousity got the better of me and today i opened up the log to check.. and Boy am i glad i did.. All workers are dead.. n i only found one body.. and my poor queen has no brood or eggs. I've now put her into a test tube which she immediatly went to the cotton wool and had a drink, she is now in the dark n ive left some protein jelly in with her. Simple question do you think there is any chance at all she will come back from this. Bearing in mind she is from last years new queens! :(
Queens who loose all their workers and brood rarely recover, especially ligniperda as MYRM (a guy who had this species) had this problem and the queen died few weeks later with some eggs.
But its still possible that shel recover and survive
hope she survives Steve, I'm not to optmistic tho, I got a lig queen who had lost all her eggs, and she never layed anymore :( I was lucky enough to get a few coccons for her, however I think the cocoons died in our mini-heatwave the other weekend while they where stuck in the post office :(
I'm sorry to say Steve, that is true, queens who loose all their workers have not much change of surviving. They have used all there reserves and it will take to long for new brood to develop. Especially with this species.
yeh thats pretty much what i thought.. i'll keep my fingers crossed tho and feed her.. nothing else i can do really :(
