Skippy: Camponotus vagus swarming (22. Apr 2008 18:51)

Did anyone see it ?? ... today was 20´C here and I came look into forest and I have not seen any winged ants on top of the nest (they waiting on top if is more hot at start of springs and if is right temp/light/humidity they flying out). Campo vagus swarm at this time cca, but to today I think was too cold and rainy weather in Central Europe , so I really do not know , if I missed swarming  at some more hot day (here was max 20´C... before only 15-18 ) or if they are still in nest :?

I really need to know if anyone have seen it this year and on which location ;)

Thanks

dont know about swarming, there are no camp vagus here.
how much times in spring mating flights occur?

Here in Belgium it still is much to soon for flights (i recon). Also i don't think there are Camponotus vagus around here. ;)

they swarming after rains and at 24-25°C (first this temp after winter) and it during some years some days , some year all males/females in one day. But this global warming looks bad , I believe after 20 years I´ll catching campo vagus at January

last year at: 24. april
year before: 5 may
year before: 12. may

Because I can look into a C. vagus nest next to my house without destroing anything (would be too complicated to explain this now), I can see that all of the young Queens are still inside the nest. So no swarming so far here in Austria.

I'm looking forward to the global warming thingy, since there are campo vagus in finland, but only in the most southern parts (few colonies)...And it's illegal to catch any (yet) , but they will move north if it gets really warmer.
I hope that in 50 years i'll be catching vagus queens here, mid-east finland.

I looked your location S.T.K and looks good. Probably , they are still in nest :) ... but I am not sure to time , when I´ll see them ;)

Skippy: (28. Apr 2008 15:57)

Ohh , I saw today some young females and males in the holes of nest ... so they are still inside prepared to swarm :) ... you should to feel how I am happy :D

JimmyVe: (28. Apr 2008 16:04)

I'm happy for you to Skippy. ;) I hope they fly out soon.
