mzfckr: aphids - again (13. Mär 2008 14:22)

very much people has asked about aphids.and im one of them.
has anyone tried them with succes(the are milking them not eating)?any tips to keep a good plant in a basin?

btw, myrmica rubra milk aphids, right?

I think that you should try using a cactus as they need minimal care and mine have always got these tiny, fluffy insects on them.

I have seen Myrmica rubra milking aphids on nettles in the wild and once when I gave some aphids to my colony, they took one down and I could see them milking it.

they find aphids at summer, but at winter they all die and next year they find new aphids to milk?

My Myrmica rubra colony only eats them. ;)

It is hard to use them in a setup but you can always try.

Yes in winter time there are no aphids, in spring they just go out and look for new ones.

Lol Jimmy, my ants have never eaten aphids, they allways ether milk them or ignore them completly, mabe mine think aphids are too small for meat. :dontknow:

mzfckr: (14. Mär 2008 21:36)

they are very small right?you can see them in summer with naked eye?

Phasmid: (14. Mär 2008 21:43)

Yes, and they can be very easy to find because the leaves they live on tend to curl up so all you have to do is look under it.

Most of the time they are in huge numbers on a plant so it impossible to not see them. :)
