I only use pinkies and the flys of em. My Diacamma loves both. I never tried fruit flys. I thought they are hard to feed cause they are so little....

I tried normal (winged) fruit flies and my ants like them very much, they are great for small ants, like Lasius, which normally eat insects of this size. Especially for small, young colonies, becouse ants don't forage in groups yet ant may have difficulties with something bigger. Wingless flies can be given alive, so the ants could really hunt them.

I buying flyes larvae in Aquashop for fish hunting ;) ... they selling about 100 larvae in one box for small price and they will became cocoon to 1-2 weeks. They are cocoons about 1-2 weeks too , then they became flyes ;) .... so much flyes. One box of this larvae cost here about 1 EUR and I have food for ants for cca 1 month :) . Fruit flys are VERY small :( , maybe for monomorium or tapinoma or some young queens ;)

I have recently started to feed my ants flightless fruit flys and they love them:) Very much easier to feed than crickets and easier for the ants to overpower and move than mealworms. The tales i`ve heard of the fly cultures smelling bad are exagerated (my spelling is bad i think). I have no noticable smell in my ant stock cupboard. I would recommend them to anyone.

i just brought some larvae myself.. then realised my ants are libernating so the flies are more than likely gonna be hatched and dead by the time my ants r ready to eat them... Ohhhh Wellll

Once they hatch... deep freeze them. Then they can wait for the ants to come out of hibernation. :D
