yes, however, its very expensive for a heat mat ;) also you will need a thermostat, as they get very hot.

These are useless at heating basins however, unless you put them underneath, but they will dry out the basin very fast if you do that.

You could use it to keep an ambient tempreture of about 24C inside a farm, and then use a lamp during the day to heat the air tho :)

do you know of any sites that sell all the recomended stuff ?

so am i better off with a heat lamp then ?

cheers

pet shops ur best bet, find a good one that has a good reputation with reptiles :)

or ebay, very cheap, dont forget a thermostat or u'll end up with cooked ants (which incidently are great with a bit chilli and ice cream ;) )

alrighty then, shall pop to the pet store and see if they sell any :)

What i use for my exotic ants,

They are in a y-tong nest, i heat up the y-tong with a heat mat, the out world i heat up with a heat lamp during day and a ceramic lamp during the night. (the lamps are connected to a thermostat to give them the perfect temperature)

so you just use the heat mat to warm it up first, then switch to Light ?

the heat mat shuld be left on all the time, attached to a thermostat, then u can either use a constant ceramic heater, or a light, particuly for diurnal species you may want to attach it to a timer

Exotic Camponotuses ...

in aquarium , where they will probably live you can use also normal terarist lamp , it is good and it can make hot inside. Aquarium must be covered = inside will be "glass house" (dont know EN) , so hot and nice big humidity. You can open it sometimes per day , to give there new oxid.

I have it like this , and I manually starting light at 7:00 and off at 20:00 .
All exotic ants inside are OK , no problems.

I also have there tank with water and inside this tank is water heater for awuariums ... it is like radiator and making wet inside ;) , small fogger.

I have the same heat matt like you! Lol. I had bought it from cheaper price, from deposit price, because my parents are vets and my mum have deposit price´s in the deposits, because we have a pet shop too... These terrarium mats and things for terrarium animals, ants too, are very good, this firm- Exo-Terra* is by my opinion the high quality products, but in normal shops, from big prices....
