I'm interested in buying some species of ants which comtain soldier class. At the beginning I've decided to buy Atta, but the price is horrible. So I've chosen Pheidologeton, Messor or Pheidole.

And these are my question...I freak out to observe soldiers. I like them, so I wanna have a species which have a very visible soldiers class.

So which ants do ypu recommend? I know that the best for this is Pheidologeton, but what about Pheidile or Messors?

hi t0m0o and welcome to the forum
firstly i know it sounds this is properly not what you want to hear but... to keep colonies like this you need to have experience in keeping other easier species to begin with such as lasius niger.
messor barbarus also have large majors and they can easily be seen and observed, pheidile also has a very large range castes and the soldiers are also easily visible i would say messor barbarus are slightly easier to keep becuase they are much less likely to escape.

Yeah. Messor would be the best for beginning. Not easy like Laius niger but they have huge Minor and Major ants. That are not soldiers but as like soldiers.
Pheidile is a master in escaping and a little ant (not the soldiers but the workers).
And Pheidolegton is not easy to keep. Some keepers with much experience say their colony died without a reason (for them). So they are the last reccomend i give you.

Try with Messor. But keep in mind that they hibernte now.....

Mist stick with sith for this one, if you are (like your profile tells us) a beginner the most species you give us are way to difficult for you. You need experience to keep them (if you already have, forget i told this)

If you like bigger ants i also would recommend Messor barbarus ore another Messor species. They are also a bit difficult but easier than all the other ants you prefer. ;)

like we have said messors of some kind would be the best choice for you, you suggested getting Atta but they would most likely die very quickly as you have no where near the needed experience. dont take any of this as an offence we are just trying to help you the best we can

So we can say you if Messor is a good choice for you. For the first steps are Lasius niger or some Camponotus ligniperda more advisable....

But first tell us if you keep some ;)
