im just gonna leave it for the forum to vote its the only fair really

this is by far the most unfair way to decide which species to get :x .....
i have to agree with Mzfckr here, so many different species have differing requirements, you realy should spend a little time reading up on all the species you are interested in, and then decide which you think you are able to provide for, and not which species gets the highest vote....what may be redeemd easy by some, can indeed be hard for others..... this method is not fair to the ants at all......

Give us the time to vote ;)

I voted for the Myrmica rubra . Let me explain why;
I like these ants, i keep them myself, they are not that hard to keep and really interesting. A bit aggressive but not to much and they can have more queens in one colony.
Formica sanguinea needs slaves and i think they are just a bit to difficult for you. ;) (for now, maybe later if you have a bit more experience)
Manica rubida are really nice and where my second option. ;)
Formica fusca are nice to but a little bit less interesting than Myrmica rubra because they only have one queen in there colony.
Camponotus ligniperda are not so easy as Myrmica rubra , not to hard, just a little bit harder. ;)

whys everyone hating on this is not fair :?:

its not unfair i know what they need ive read loads of websites and this forum to,near anouth top to bottom! these species are ok to the enviroment i can give them if no it all can be easyly adjusted for them cant it all i have to do is get some stuff to suite there needs!

i know that they are all allot different from eachother but what do you mean not fair to ants :?:

anyway whatever species gets the highest vote i would do a lot of reasearch on yes i completely agree you need to do research on them first. i mean otherwise how can you make sure there enviromet is ok for them that you got food they like and stuff like that i agree that would be a very stupid thing to do but i am not doing no i cant belive u fault i would do that course not! i mean u will be puttin the ants life at risk :!:

heres what im going to do, sorry i should of said this to begin with but anyway its better late than never at all, as goes the saying. now what ever species gets the highest vote i will do reasearch on until middle december then if i fill happy with the rearch ive done i will proseed in getting there requiments, wood/bark stones what ever they need and ill ask this forum too if im ok to go with ahead with this. if not i would get one in second place ifnot that one it keeps going down like that and i know for certain i can manage rubra and fusca :)

i hope this makes u fill a bit better now and theres no more negative replies, though thanks for them in a way but in future if any one decagries on somthing that im doing can they please, please, please just try to say it in a politte manner thank u. when u desargried thanks because its shown me that i havent been very clear at all and i greated this massive big understanding between us and i am sorry for that

i think you need to base your choice of species on what you would like from your colony, every species is diffrent and reacts in diffrent ways, for eg...

Maybe you would like somthing that is very active day and night, or maybe you dont mind

Do you want a speices that forages by itself or works in teams?

What kind of temprement would you like? Agreesive? Passive?

Do you want a colony that will grow very big, quickly, slowly? etc

My personal prefrence in your list would be for the Campontus, but thats not really relevant to you, as i'm sure we have diffrent 'tastes' as far as what we like to see :)

i'm not being negative, just trying to get a better idea of what you are looking for in a species so i can then deciede what to vote for or recomend

darradar: (13. Nov 2007 18:37)

don't worry antdude, i didnt mean to offend you, and you certainly have not created bad feeling here, i see that you are a young 13years old, so maybe it's more an age gap thing, you are taking advise in a negative way, it is'nt meant like that, we are trying to guide and help you.
Now that you have explained a little more as to what you intend to do, it seems quite logical, so please accept my opology if i have upset you

And as a Camponotus cruentatus keeper i would have to vote Camponotus.
They are a slow growing colony, and prefer a more dry habitat, so in a way this is easier to mentain... (for me)

Skippy: (13. Nov 2007 18:47)

so....

for you is the best Camponotus ligniperda -big , nice , no problem ant

other ants I dont know

Myrmica is hard to keep and very different , because it like wet climate and sometime is hard to keep them
Formica fusca is nice black , but very lazy and stupid ant , not hard to keep , but it is better to keep them with more queen
Formica sanguinea is nice ant , very interesting and good predator , not hard to keep but it need much of high qualitty food (insects) every day , when queen laying eggs and larvae growing
Manica rubida is also nice , but it is like Myrmica rubra , it need wet , it is aggressive ant (when si colony bigger) and it is better to start with more queens , but I think too hard to keep for begginers

- 13 years old ... I had all this species at this age so I believe you are able to have one of this ;)

ant dude: (13. Nov 2007 19:03)

thanks miszt thats a very nice friendly email makes a change for u lol to compared to the others u sent me i mean
ean
yes i agree all of them completely different :) i dont realy mind as long as there are at least a bit active  i prefer them if they work in teams as i think its more intresting to wacth team work than a lone worker/soldier even though a lone worker can be just as intresting or even more so but it really does depends though whats happening. i prefer agreesive colony's though because they are for me just better than passive etc.i would like a colony that produce a big colony quite quickly because its nice to see that u are doing an ok job for them and i just personally prefer this.yes i agree lol, but thats the species im begining to question myself if i should get because with a lot of peoples expirences they seem to die for no apparent reason i was already unshore but i shall continue reaserch on them espially them because that's the species i know less about out of all of them lol

i know your being positive for a change lol.ok good way to do it i guess!
