Great stuff :)
I've been using it for my t.Nylanderi, and it works great, I dont even leave the lid on anymore as they dont go near it, before i used that I was getting ~6 escapees every day with PTFE and Talk combinations!
I've also got it on my p.Pallidula tank now, its been on for about 2 weeks, and i've not had any escapes yet, although tbh the colony is very small and theres only ever 1 or 2 out at the moment still setting up their new home
I'm going to try it on one of my L.Niger colonys aswell and see how it works.
One thing you need to rember with Vasaline is that it will form a dry crust after a month or so, so its important to just run your finger over it to 'mix it up', also worth topping it up every few weeks to a month.
Best thing about it is, it is not affected by humidity, being Oil based, so you dont need to worry about it weaking from high air humidity levels.
I keep all my basins in pools of water as a secondary protection anyway, I've also put a strip of vasaline around the basin containing the water, this is about 5cm wide, going 1cm under the water so ants wont be able to climb out if they manage to swim accros the water :)
maybe i will try this, my herculaneous worker was sitting on the lid of the arena the other day. THe lid seems flush to the arena and the gauze is way too small for him to crawl through, I have no idea how he got out.
A band of vaseline around the top, plus the lid should be sufficient I think
good, I will try it with my L. niger
thanks for the info ;)
i use Vaseline for my formica fusca colony and it seems to work really well aswell, and its easier to get than ptfe

Also works on the Silicon edges, unlike PFTE :)
