charles17: feeding a new colony (26. Sep 2005 22:22)

i have a new colony of some sort of carpenter ant i believe. theyre pretty big. they used to occasionally eat the pieces of fruit i put in the antbox connected to the antfarm. but lately they haven't really been eating. the queen and them just stay huddled in a hole all day. is that normal?
should i just let them stay in there until they want to come out or should i try to feed them for their own good? putting little bits of food in their hole seems to be a bad idea since i think itll rot...

but... is that normal behavior for a new colony of about 5 ants, a queen, and a bunch of eggs just to stay inside all day and night? and should i let them eat at their own leisure? or will they like... starve to death... :? lol

just one question. do you sit before your farm 24/7?

iam shure they walk around more than you think^^

lol... not 24/7 but i look at it a lot... they never seem to move. after i moved into the dorms they just stay in their hole all day now lol.

keep cool...
5 workers and 1 Queen do not really move a lot!
They like chilling!
They´ll get more active when the colony has become larger!

But do post us more about them! And try to find out, what species they´re off... I´d like you too give us a nice description!
