has any one used a usb micoscope to look at there ants i have seen one cheap and im thinking of getting one. :)
hi
yes, only problem with these cheap ones is that it can magnify only 20x or 200x (or 400x)...
anything in between is blurred
anyway 20x is quite enough :)
thank you mgdi
Aye, usb microscopes are ideal. I've been able to make some great videos with my DigiMicro Scale 2.0. The drivers used to be a problem but the latest from win7 work very good, and it's also usable as a simple plug and play usb webcam. You can check out an example of the quality here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ate4MdmXuNM
There's also a range of usb microscopes from Dino-Lite that seem to be doing quite well.
After I've read your post guys, I think i'm going to buy 1 to help me observe the ants better. I'll search ebay now. :)

Digital blue makes a line of "toy" digital microscopes. They are great for looking at bugs, but not for the cellular level. You can buy them for around $100 USD on EBAY. Qx3 is th older model. I believe there is a Qx4 and Qx5. You can take still pictures, short video and time lapse video. If you have an old compputer, the Qx3 will work on it. If you have a newer computer, you must have the 4 or 5 model.
