bryguy97: Where can you find Solenopsis molesta? (12. Jun 2010 21:06)

Hi.

I live in Massachusetts and I just found out that Solenopsis molesta ( thief ants) live here, and I would like to get a colony of them started. But I have never seen a colony of them here. So, I was wondering what their preferences are for nesting sites were. I know you can probably find them almost anywhere in some places, but where do you find them most often? Thanks for any help! :D

Its not a easy specie to find. I see them in lawns and dry wooded areas most often under rocks in carnivorous tree prairies. I don't see them often due to their size. Your best luck in finding them is during the night under lights.

BTW, what do you mean by "carnivorous tree prairies"?
