bryguy97: Where to buy ants in the U.S.A. (18. Feb 2010 21:52)

Hi. I live in the U.S.A. and can't find anyone who sells ant colonies with queens. I know there are regulations, but i'm pretty sure it's legal to buy from a reputable seller( with a license). Does anyone know who sells some?

Maybe you can ask some private sellers ? I know its hard in the U.S.A. to get your hands on ants from an other country or state. But i'm sure there are some private sellers from your state that will help you with it.

Well, I'll just collect them myself I guess. That's all right; there are plenty of good ants around here. :D

Its only illegal to ship them to other states if i'm not mistaken, you may have ants from your own state.
And yes i'm sure there will be lots you can catch your self. ;)

If i were you i would buy the equipment from Antstore and collect your own queens. There should be some interesting species around you.
And maybe you have the chance to sneak in some other ants if your are on vacation and stuff

Well, I make my own equipment, so I have that taken care of. As for sneaking them in, I really don't want to do something illegal. I REALLY wish I could sneak them in, though! ( I caught a part of a colony of a Pheidole species in Florida once that had two queens and like 500 workers! I also found a colony of the same species under a rock that had AT LEAST 10 queens, but I didn't have anything to collect it in :(. Of course I couldn't bring any back...) I think all the ant keepers in America should try to change that law somehow. But for now I'll just have to work with what I have...
