Ok... I live in California in USA. And as you know, it's illegal to purchase queen ants. I just want to know one thing. I like to start a colony of ants... well, colony which has queen, workers, and soldiers. I want them to be predator type, in other words, they go hunting. What kind of species in US are like that? I really like to know because since I can't import non-native ants, I just want to buy or find native-ants to USA. Well, Help me. Thanx!!

If I were you I'd go for a carpenter ant colony. They're large and easy to take care of. They can be held in large plastic jugs with no problem. As for hunting, if you stick a grasshopper or other large insect in with them they'll tear apart with no mercy. If you're living in southern Cali like I was a few years ago you MAY be able to find a fire ant colony to dig up. VERY rare their and possibly illegal.

ants with a soldier caste : Camponotus,Messor,Pheidole,Atta

I don't really know what other species in the US have soldiers
