thecowmaster: New queen (4. Mai 2009 23:09)

Hi,

I was only supose to get ants after september, because i will be away from home for a month.

But something happend, i saw a queen in front of my building, i brougth her home, and i puted in a tiny glass container, with water.

I think the queen is a lasius lasioides , well if it is a queen . But after 3 days, i am starting to think that she is a not fecundated queen, because she still have her wings, and dind't laied any eggs.

So it is a pity XD

May be another time :D

Than there is a big change she is not fertilized. To bad. Better luck next time. ;)

thecowmaster: Re: New queen (6. Mai 2009 20:52)

yup, i hope i cactch one at leat this summer, but...

About the queen what shall I do with her? if I releast she will die propably... Well I had put water inside the tube and honey.

JimmyVe: Re: New queen (8. Mai 2009 10:51)

You can keep her, she will stay alive for a few months and than die. (probably) Its better not to catch queens with wings. :) Maybe its better to release her back into nature.

thecowmaster: Re: New queen (8. Mai 2009 18:59)

yeah I think i will releast her in the summer, may be she finds a male

thecowmaster: Re: New queen (24. Jun 2009 12:37)

WOHOU!!!

The queen i caught layed eggs!!! It is freaking awsome! lol In th other day, on the males fligths and I caugth some of them.
I put one in too the queen tube, and then he died.

After several weeks I looked inside the tube and she had layed eggs!!!

Now one question... Is it possible the eggs give only males, in case they are not fecundated?

McK: Re: New queen (24. Jun 2009 12:57)

Yeah, they'll probably develop into males.

thecowmaster: Re: New queen (24. Jun 2009 13:29)

is it possible the males cross with the queen?

McK: Re: New queen (24. Jun 2009 14:15)

No, not with Lasius.

damondeionno: Re: New queen (24. Jun 2009 16:16)

Hang on. Did the mail and queen mate? If they did, I don't see any reason why the eggs should be fertilised.
