Hello Friends its me Creature again from the german forum :)
I thought about a little idea i had last week. Maybe i will get 2 Antcolonies (maybe Formica Fusca and Raptiformica Sanguinea) and will build them two seperated habitats.
But with one little special function. An arena wich is connected to both nests with 2 valves where the ants can meet. I would like to see a ant battle and its a good option to keep the number of ants low by a natural way.
What do you think about this Idea? do u think its cruelty to animals?
It always fun to see that happen, but it'll take up to two years before the colonies are even big enough for attack.
Small colonies tend to avoid conflict.
hmm... ants battles ? I'm not fund of that. In nature i happens sometimes but that doesn't mean you have to do it with your own ants in captivity.
The species you are talking about ( Formica sanguinea ) uses slaves, so it would be nice if you can see them steal there own slaves from a colony but you need to make sure they can not kill the colony or steal all brood because than the other colony is going to fail.
It could be possible, but you'd need to make a nest for the fusca with MANY entrances so they can escape when under attack. Also many connecting tubes to many arenas and a LOT of room ofcourse.
