Pugberto, this is big mistake, Messor barbarus is mediterraneal ant, and they coudn´t live in UK, there is hard winter for them! In the midle Europe lives Messor structor var. muticus, but this ant also love bigger temperatures, and it could live in the UK.... Messor barbarus submajors have size about 10mm, they have red head ant black thorax and gaster...

Yeah I know, they are mainly from Spain but the winter where I live has been very mild this year. When I saw them at first glance it was the size that got me and the unusually red head. I did check when I got home but I forgot to report it, I haven't been on here for a while due to a lot college work. It's hard to deter which species it is but it isn't British, I may have to return to the site.

Hey,

My queen has got her first worker there might even be two but theres defenietely one its small and brown probably still trying to change colour as it hatched today still dont know the species but i will have a better guess now :)
