I would asume adding live plants to a basin would increase the humidity therefore decreasing the time the PTFE would be effective?

badman: (22. Apr 2008 10:06)

plants produce water vapour through respiration and transpiration but not in huge quantities, I suppose it depends on the size/type of plant.

ratgreen: (22. Apr 2008 16:42)

yer you are correct. so you could use fake plants, or do you really want real ones?

Moiser: (22. Apr 2008 18:00)

I was thinking of putting a Rose of Jericho in a basin, they seem like pretty interesting plants and I imagine they wouldn't affect the humidity too much?

ratgreen: (22. Apr 2008 19:48)

well when ever you water them you will be raising the humidity a bit. but its really not that bad, im sure it wont affect the PTFE that much.

I've recently bough a L.Niger Queen with the Antstore starter set and some PTFE.
They still get past it :S i have about 2 cm of it but they can get along the glass glue/sealant along the edges.
How do i stop this easily? for now i have used Vaseline and placed them in a tray of water but i would like to get the PTFE safe too :)

One of the sticky threads has an FAQ on this.

You are meant to cut away the silicon with a razor blade. Only do it where you are going to put the PTFE.

JimmyVe: (5. Aug 2008 19:34)

Hello Pol and welcome.

The PTFE has no effect when it is a used on silicon. So like damon said, you need to cut always the silicon in the corners.

ah cool :D will be doing that as soon as my ants go to bed :)
