yes I am looking too for a l.flavus queen

Magicalsushi: Re: Mating flights (19. Jul 2010 18:59)

Yep, they're out this evening in Oxford too. :D I'm after Myrmica Rubra, but I think I've only found Lasius n iger so far. :( Better than nothing though.

There are several Myrmica r ubra nests on the road near my flat, but I couldn't find any queens near them. Is it likely that there'd be some near the nests, or would they try to fly far away? If there's a good chance of me catching one near the nests, I'll have another go, but if not, I'll leave it and stick with the L Niger queens I caught - it's a busy road and people keep calling me a freak because (from their point of view) I'm wandering around picking up invisible things from the floor and putting them into tupperware containers. :S

Any updates?? I have been watching Lasius queens and males poking there heads out of the nests recently. Weather has been pretty mixed recently and not hot. Any flights where you guys live?

Lasius niger also flew today in the south east :) Caught 4 queens :)

electric-man: Re: Mating flights (8. Aug 2010 22:25)

Here in Holland, on the 7th of August.

I caught "just" two, and put them both in the Aquarium I prepared. This is all ver new to me, I caught one with and one who already dropped her wings.

One started to bury in right at the front of the aquarium against the glass, the other under a rock.

Can I keep these both in a 40cm cubic aquarium 1/2 filled with sand? I was not sure if both would be fertile, so I put them both in.

Please let me know what you think, otherwise I would have to take one out!

Thanks for the reply!
