Hey,
Well I just got what is my 4th or 5th order frm antstore and so far, it's been brilliant! However...
I was prepping my formicarium when I opened the packet of white sand... this stuff is so fine it's almost useless, unless I was trying to find a substitue for flour in my bread.
It would be impossible for ants to dig anywhere in this stuff so I decided I might just try it in the forage area... this was a bad idea to, it just sticks to the ants?! So now I have a bunch of ants that look like they are ready to be deep fried.
This stuff is useless and i'm not sure what im supposed to use it for. In the end I have mixed it with some normal sand and loam I had left over, and now its useful, but it isnt white anymore either.
Just a warning to other customers and a reccomendation to stick a warning on the pack about how fine this stuff is, maybe: (Ant Flour) ?
Regards,
MrNixy/Tom
Why is it useless? Are you sure it is sand and not Loam?
I use very fine sand mixed with loam, and have no problems with it :) fine sand sticks together better than course sand, thats why you add loam to course sand
It is 100% sand, I ordered sand, the recipt says sand. It is supposed ot be a sand loam mixture (http://www.antstore.net/shop/product_info.php/info/p947_sand-loam-mixture-white-1000g.html).
Im being honest with you here and not flaming antstore, this stuff is like flour... literally.
In fact, let me make you a video, ill stick the link here in a few min to show you what I mean.
I know what fine sand is like, as I said, I use it myself :) unless your ants are a particuly large species, they wont have a problem with it
I put a lasius niger in it... he died. No just joking. He got covered in sand. I found mixing it with normal sand works well, I was in a bad mood when I wrote this... feel free to remove it. Ill make a video of my ants anyway!
Love you antstore xxx (Not gay)

if its that fine, then pherhaps it is loam that has been mislabled, mix it up with some courser sand, shuld solve the problem
Yeah, it works great mixed with sand :D
Problem solved. ;)
