i am interested in using a living colony in a sculpture that is going to be exhibited in a cold gallery.
the ants are supposed to live on a smooth surface,with no possibility to hide under anything.
the nest will be too artificial for them.
this is my first work with ants and that world is very far away from me.
i would like to hear any comments about the concept.
wich kind of ants will be the suitable for it?
is it possible?
the sculpture will be exhibited for a whole month.

It is possible, but I think that the animals don't like this.

Hi, i saw a site of Dalí with ants on it.
Also M.C.Escher has made pictures of ants.
I will search them.

It would be very nice if you can post the link here! Maybe in future we will make it possible, that everybody could upload his own pictures here in the forum, at the moment its a software and server problem.

Also one information: Please always but the name of the owner under the pictures, I think its not nice to "borrow them" without.

well, i better works fast as i am making a similar art works, too, but i am building a screen with 3 level, and they will be some live food in it, i am interrested in my works to show behind the screen the mouvement of the ants as actors if you like.

we are exhibiting in london, at the brewer gallerie in june, should be good, and a very good place for avant garde works!

martin is right, the ants might not died, but they won`t like anything where they can not hide or at least feed or have some kind of natural enviromnent.
i have made a custome sculture of the screen, similar at the antfarms they sell here.
but like i says this is only for a week.
after that, my babies got back to their antfarms fills with sand/earth/loam etc...
i am just stuck to find a gel, which is crystal clear so u can see, the film behing the farms.
anyway, these projects has got me, plenty of interrets, and i am planning to make a big exhibition of ants farms as sculture, but in a natural environment, i will works more on the sculture, which leave me to post a message about soemthing i have been trying to get...
